The most recent Edge update causes issues with Internet Explorer's compatibility settings.
I have just received the latest Edge update to Version 100.0.1185.29. I encounter some websites that need compatibility with the older Internet Explorer. Edge provides a compatibility mode in the Settings / Default browser section. There is a list you can edit, "Internet Explorer mode pages," with an "Add" button. You enter your site and Edge will add it and launch all listed sites in compatibility mode. This function works, but the issue with the new update is that the list of compatible sites is not persistent and often disappears when you close Edge. It appears Microsoft has introduced a problem here.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Has it been reported to Microsoft? Are there any solutions? (It makes it simpler for Edge now to have an icon that switches the current tab to IE compatibility mode, though this step shouldn't be needed.)
Thanks!
Occurred to me on Windows 11, yet another user tried it on Windows 10 and faced the same issue. Not too surprising since it's related to the browser, not the operating system. Didn't consider providing feedback for an app; I thought it would be as unhelpful as writing a letter to the president expecting a reply. Still, it might be worth trying.
I understand that but if many people encounter the same issue, they might resolve it.
I discovered a problem with a Windows app last week and submitted a report on AppStore; I don’t anticipate a fix either since the issue seems unlikely to impact most users.
It seems like a global update for Edge, as the differences between versions 10 and 11 aren’t that significant.
This appears to relate to the settings you mentioned:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deploye...-site-list
It could be an unplanned change, given they updated the area last month –
https://www.theregister.com/2022/03/30/ie_mode_changes/
So far it’s just early, and a patch might fix it later.
Going to sites that need Internet Explorer is considered unsafe and poses a security threat, which is why they discourage it. This might explain why they don’t retain settings across sessions. It’s part of their effort to remove all connections to Internet Explorer.
We encountered the same issue with Edge Version 100.0.1185.29 on Windows 10. I’m aware of three colleagues facing the same problem.
We require IE-Mode since we’re using a service that relies on ActiveX. We really hope this bug gets fixed quickly.
Best regards
Harald
It's a new issue, and I haven't found anyone else online with the same problem. The IE mode won't disappear until 2029, so they must address this for locations requiring IE support. I recommend reporting it through the Feedback app, as doing so increases the chances of a fix.
Received the update for Version 100.0.1185.39 and the issue seems resolved.
