The most recent BIOS for the Legion 7 16Achg6 (2021) supports XMP updates.
I just upgraded the Lenovo Legion 7 16Achg6 BIOS and saw it appear immediately. Does this indicate that adding XMP RAM will unlock the XMP profile for those modules, or is it a permanent limitation? Which RAM models are you considering purchasing? I’m thinking about buying this kit.
to activate XMP on this laptop you’ll likely need a custom modded bios. many users on the lenovo forums have asked the same thing and some have attempted to make XMP work, but it appears the feature is disabled. the safest option is to try overclocking ram using intel xtu, and if that fails then you’re out of luck.
Every modern ram is an "XMP RAM". AFAIK, laptops does not have any form of memory overclocking (as @herb pointed out) or really any overclocks except on the CPU and GPU in some cases. But if i were being honest, why would you? Unless youre running your laptop as a desktop replacement, overclocking your laptop is simply not worth while for the added heat and power demand.
The current RAM module operates at 3200 22-22-22, which is quite fast. Reducing it to CL16 could boost performance by 25-30 FPS. For VR, low latency is essential to maintain comfort and prevent disorientation. Regarding heat, my laptop manages thermal issues well and should handle the additional memory load without problems.
