Probably driver related, but who knows? Anyhow, you have a Lenovo laptop. Maybe download System Update and update all drivers, firmwares, BIOS and see how it works afterwards?

Might be a low-cost cable causing signal loss both in and out, not necessarily related to drivers. Just because it's a new issue doesn't rule it out—it could be due to how you bent it, altering the signal enough to fall outside readable limits, or a new EMI source appeared, slightly disrupting the signal enough to lose correctability.
