I recently installed a Ryzen 3800X, RTX 2080, and 32GB of 3200MHz RAM on an affordable motherboard around three years old. However, I’ve started hearing USB disconnection noises, and my ultrawide monitor keeps flickering when playing Subnautica. Steam VR also randomly turns black, making it hard to use. Other issues aren’t apparent at the moment.

What kind of power supply do you have? And which motherboard model is it exactly?

I question the PSU assumption because the GQ model is quite dependable. The PRO-M2 V2 seems to have poor power delivery to the CPU, as noted in my signature’s tier list. I believe that could be the issue. Consider upgrading to a better motherboard. (MSI A-Pro is a solid option, or any tier C and higher.) Your reasoning about motherboard limitations is correct, but perhaps it’s not failing completely—it might just struggle to supply enough power for the 3800X. You might want to check VRM temperatures or use active cooling for the VRMs to identify the real cause.
