I’m considering either the R5 3600 or the 3600x. I need advice on which one fits my overclocking goals. I’m leaning toward the MSI B450 Tomahawk max and the Gigabyte X570 Gaming X, though I’m curious about their reviews. The GIGABYTE X570 AORUS ELITE caught my eye for its appearance and perceived value.

I'm a sucker for the tomahawk boards, have owned two now and both have been great

You should face minimal issues when boosting a 3600, and Ryzen chips may reach their design boundaries before the board does

It varies based on your upgrade direction. The tomahawk works well, but you won’t be able to run 12 cores on it. For a gaming-only PC without heavy demands, tomahawk plus gaming features should suffice nicely.

It'll likely take some time before another update, my setup has been around five years. It's mainly for gaming and school assignments, which are pretty basic. My graphics card could be the current 1070 or possibly upgraded to something like 2070 or 5700xt. I might experiment with overclocking the GPU, but I'm not sure yet.
