I'm dealing with an issue with my RAM recently. I purchased a 3200mhz DDR4 module from g.skill Trident Z Royal CL16.18.18.38. It functions properly at the default 2133mhz, but when I enabled XMP it automatically adjusted to 3200mhz with the same model. Restarting my PC to save settings took over five minutes, and even after that it kept reverting back to 2133. I changed various voltage settings but reached a maximum of 2666mhz without any improvement in latency. Then I tried 2933hz, which loaded correctly but caused a blue screen during Windows login multiple times, indicating instability. The latest BIOS is installed on my Asus 2401 laptop. I've attempted manual and auto installation, but neither worked reliably. I tested it with a friend's setup (Amd 3700x and X570 Tuf), which worked smoothly at 3600mhz even when pushed slightly higher. My board is an Asus Strix Z370F gaming processor with I7 8700k, DDR4 3200mhz g.skill Trident Z Royal CL16.18.18.38.
I understand but even my 6700 chip that works at 2133MHz can manage 3000MHz RAM without any problems, and it shouldn't be affected by how powerful the processor is. My board can handle up to 4000MHz RAM.
Incorrect. Your CPU memory controller only supports 2666mhz. The board memory controller offers higher speeds, up to 4000mhz, but they function together rather than separately. XMP isn't working, so manual overclocking will be necessary beyond the standard specs. Sometimes a gold sample works perfectly, while other times you need to adjust it carefully.
