I tried moving my M.2 NVME SSD in the opposite orientation to fit the bracket on my motherboard. Initially it didn’t power up and the indicator stayed off. Eventually I returned it to its original position. Now it lights up properly! That’s better. I’m curious if this is normal or if something went wrong with either the board or the drive. The connection looks clean, UEFI isn’t recognizing it, Windows PE doesn’t display it, and it doesn’t appear in bootable media or SMART checks. It seems like a mix-up between SATA and NVMe designs—I noticed the pin layout differs noticeably. Did I harm either component? I’m considering buying a standard SATA M.2 for easier handling and similar capacity at a comparable price.

It's unclear how you inserted it in reverse; the main goal was to prevent proper installation. However, if you succeeded in doing so, it's likely you may have harmed it or the motherboard.

Usually I flip things around unless the design specifically requires reversibility, which usually makes it less effective.
