The local shop claimed your RTX 3060 isn't compatible because your system is outdated. Is that accurate?
I had been using a used RTX 3060 Ti with 8GB RAM for four months before everything stopped working and the computer would not boot. After trying it on a local shop, they said it only worked once out of ten attempts and that my system was too old and incompatible, suggesting a full upgrade. My GTX 1060 is still functional but I can't use the RTX. It's a gift I received. Mobo: Asus Z97-Deluxe PCI-Express 3.0 (8.0 GT/s)
CPU: Intel i7-4470 @ 3.40 GHz, 3401 Mhz, 4 Cores, 8 Logical Processors
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB
RAM: Kingston 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3 933MHz
PSU: Thermaltake Smart M 750w
Any suggestions? Should I upgrade the whole PC to run the RTX? It's strange how my system worked for a while with the RTX but then suddenly stopped.
Your system's main component would be this;
Power Supply: Thermaltake Smart M 750w
Any Thermaltake PSU from the Smart line is intended for disposal.
For your shop, the platform requires an update because your GPU options are limited. You may consider moving your RTX 3060Ti to another functional system with a stable PSU that provides 650W total, and check if the RTX 3060 Ti still functions properly.
If the 3060 functioned for four months then the shop claiming your PC is "too old" would prompt me to seek another service provider. As I see it, your system is operational with a more recent GPU – which is favorable. Check Reliability History/Monitor and Event Viewer; either tool might have recorded some error codes, warnings, or details prior to or during the first failure.
I would consider swapping the existing system, as the 4th generation model was released 12 years ago. For similar performance at a lower cost, the 13th generation is an option since I haven’t found affordable motherboards compatible with BIOS Flashback for the 14th generation. It might also work with an i5 or i7 processor. The 12700K is inexpensive but would require a CPU cooler to use effectively.

Thanks for the feedback! I selected these components because they best fit the requirements.
I think it's time to switch to a new platform. It costs more, but it offers a significantly better upgrade route since LGA 1700 is a dead socket.

Getting good value remains the 12700k model, priced near $200, though a Ryzen 7700X is also an option. It depends on whether you need immediate replacement or something durable for years.
For someone maintaining a system over a decade, upgradability isn't the main concern, as AM5 will likely be outdated then.
I see you're considering this MicroCenter bundle. Think about upgrading your main parts now—like the motherboard and CPU—and don't have to deal with it later. The tax is $400, and the product page links here.
