Hello, based on the details you shared, it seems the router has reset itself to its original settings. Despite regular updates and no signs of intrusion, the issue might stem from a software glitch or configuration error. Since you’ve restored it before and haven’t encountered any suspicious activity, checking firmware versions and ensuring proper OpenVPN setup could help. If problems persist, consider replacing the device for reliability.

I'm not sure if this will work, but I faced a similar problem with an ASUS router a few years back. It would restart every couple or three days, but it couldn't boot up again. Changing the settings didn't help, and it was updating normally. The solution came when I installed the newest firmware manually. Since then it's been very reliable, and it's a key part of my network. Could be worth trying.

The newest firmware is from 2018. I’ve turned off my OpenVPN server to test whether it restarts automatically tomorrow. If it does, I’ll reinstall the firmware myself.

If necessary, I believe the router could handle DDWRT. Setting it up would require some effort, but if a flaw exists in the original firmware, a third-party fix might work.

I believed I located the problem. I turned off OpenVPN and the router operated normally all day without needing a reset. Later this morning I discovered it had rebooted several times between 8 AM and 10 AM. This time I reinstalled the newest firmware, but it offered a “restore previous firmware” option for the first time. It suggests the device is attempting an update but it doesn’t succeed. I’ve reverted to the current firmware and disabled automatic updates. I’m hoping this resolves the issue.
