The left CTRL key isn't responding.
I recently faced an issue where my left CTRL key stayed pressed on my keyboard. I attempted various fixes like removing USB devices, changing ports, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, restarting the computer, and even trying a new keyboard. It only works briefly when using a virtual keyboard, and sometimes the key light fails to activate. Could this be related to a hardware problem?
If I faced that problem, I'd think a fresh keyboard is needed. Make sure it's not some odd software causing the issue. Start in safe mode and see if it resolves things—it points to a software problem. You can also test the keyboard on another device to confirm Ctrl works, as the issue likely lies in the hardware. You might have removed the cap and switch but it still doesn't work. If nothing helps, you could attempt a more drastic fix and try to convince the device to cooperate. GL
Often when the virtual keyboard is active and the physical keyboard is disconnected, it fails to detect the Ctrl key press. This behavior differs from when the keyboard is connected.
I thought I was crazy. I checked under my keyboard and saw a magnet from my wrist rest that had slipped off the Ctrl key. I removed it, and now it works properly again.
