The latest update introduced several problems.
I'm experiencing problems with my new AM5 build. The open box setup includes an Asus TUF B650 plus with Corsair Vengeance 7700X 32GB RAM, Corsair iCE4 Corsair 100W power supply, and a Rocket Phantom gaming RTX 7900 XTX. I can't turn on the overclocking feature without Windows freezing. Games often crash after just a few minutes of play, with GPU temperatures reaching 83-95°C and hotspots around 105-107°C. It seems there may be multiple issues here. Would replacing the motherboard be the best solution, or should I consider upgrading the GPU as well?
What cooling solution do you have? The case isn’t providing enough airflow; you need proper ventilation. The 100w power supply might also be a problem. Looking inside the box to access the motherboard isn’t ideal—it usually indicates it’s not refurbished or tested. It seems someone returned it saying “they didn’t want it,” but there could be defects involved, so results are uncertain.
It's a 1000-watt setup using a 360 mm Capellix air cooler on my CPU, which is drawing all the airflow from the top of the case. The CPU stays hot consistently, never dropping below the 50°C mark. The GPU has its own cooling system with three Corsair fans at the bottom of the case, ensuring good air circulation. Since the power supply isn't located at the bottom, it shouldn't be affecting the airflow. My case model is Jonsbo D41. Before the recent upgrade, I had an RTX 3070 dual fan on an AM4 board that rarely exceeded 70°C. After the build, during a 15-minute session in Heaven, the GPU junction temperature reached 110°C. It doesn't crash in Heaven but does so during gameplay.
Updated the system with the 3070 and everything ran smoothly without crashes. Temperatures stayed below 73. Expo remains unsuitable. It seems there might be two problems—memory and GPU. Should I return the GPU or choose a compatible motherboard, or replace the board entirely?
Expo shouldn't cause trouble. Have you attempted manual timing adjustments? The new expo option might work for you. Certain motherboards struggle with automatic settings, similar to what happens with DOCP on my AM4 board. It often reboots into the BIOS when enabled, which I turn off. Are you using the most recent BIOS version?
If the mainboard works well and memory speeds are the only concern, returning it seems unnecessary. The decision depends on you. Upcoming BIOS updates might fix compatibility issues and address other problems. Different memory manufacturers or kits can affect timing settings. Using four memory modules can sometimes cause issues with Ryzen and Expo. The timings listed in the QVL compatible list are general recommendations—they don't guarantee perfect performance for your needs. You may need to adjust the motherboard BIOS settings yourself. For the GPU, returning is acceptable if it isn't functioning properly. Sorry for any confusion.
