Hey there, I just completed several upgrades on my PC. I upgraded from a 3700x with an Asus x570 TUF gaming Wi-Fi and G Skill Trident Z Neo RAM to a 7700x, MSI B650I Edge Wi-Fi, and G Skill Flare X5 RAM. My internet connection was decent before, around 300-400 Mbps on Wi-Fi. After the changes, speeds fluctuate a bit. On Speedtest.net I’m seeing about 310.69 Mbps down and 20.45 Mbps up, while Google shows 20 Mbps down and 6.5 Mbps up. The latter is more reflective of real-world usage. For a short time, turning off the PC gave me speeds closer to my old performance, but once I restarted it dropped again. Restarting didn’t help much. No other device in my house has the same problem, even when using Wi-Fi from the same room. I’ve updated drivers and BIOS, tried various fixes, but nothing seems to stabilize the connection. I reinstalled Windows for a couple of days and it worked briefly, but then speeds returned to around 20 Mbps. Right now I’m considering a new motherboard, but I wanted to hear any tips from others. Thanks!

Internet performance differs significantly. Unless you monitored your connections regularly before the change, then keep checking afterward, it's hard to gauge accurately. With another connected gadget, you might assess how they compare.

wifi speed tests always prefer cable connections. start by opening cmd, type command and ping google.de -t then reopen cmd. next, ping your router using 192.168.178.1 -t and 192.168.0.1 -t, similar to the previous steps. ensure the response from your router stays under 2ms. if it increases significantly, that points to a possible driver issue with your wifi adapter. this approach helps identify the source of the problem. currently, it seems more likely a hardware concern with your wifi device, though we'll investigate further.

Have you restored Windows following the board replacement? Also, did you add the Asus Wi-Fi drivers?

Windows was reinstalled following a motherboard swap. Drivers have been reinstalled multiple times. I've used MSI and ASUS drivers for the same network card, but newer versions didn't work well since they weren't optimized for this board. There are no programs interfering with Wi-Fi. Task manager shows 0% usage while idle, and downloading from Steam averages about 8 MB/s with only ~11% network activity. During CMD tests I performed them again, results were similar. Pinging Google comes back around 24ms on average, router pings are 4ms, but spikes occur during downloads. Google download speeds reach up to ~38ms with spikes up to 131ms; router performance is poor in those cases. I've attached a picture for reference.

Placed the modem close to the computer and performed a wired test that produced identical outcomes. The type of connection—wired or wireless—doesn’t affect the result.
