Check that the CPU retainer latch is completely locked in place. If it wasn’t, the lever might have slipped back out, breaking the connection to the CPU.

I reset the CMOS both times, with and without the second drive, and it booted again once it was installed. I installed Windows next and had to set up a partition for the second drive to be recognized. I suspect it wasn’t due to inconsistent hardware but rather a boot issue when the drive was missing. I’ll note this again after a full shutdown and restart. Thanks for your assistance!
