The laptop stops working following a recent accident.
Hello. My Acer A315-59g has been functioning well for a few months, but recently it’s been acting strangely. Recently, I dropped the laptop from my lap onto a wet surface, so I turned it off and checked it. A few tabs on the plastic screen cover came loose and were slightly damp, so I removed them for a closer look. There’s this faint sound coming from near the charging port area—it sounds like the old PC speaker noise. I couldn’t resolve it, so I reassembled it as it was and turned it on. It worked fine until it crashed completely when I moved it, and the screen displayed strange artifacts. After the crash, the laptop became unresponsive; even the keyboard lock light stopped working. I’ve attached an audio clip of the noise for reference. I disconnected the speakers thinking it was a sound issue, but it didn’t fix anything. Have you experienced something similar? Any advice on possible solutions would be appreciated.
Bluescreen or straight off? If that’s the case, try removing and reattaching the battery. It’s also possible the power distribution board is faulty. It should be a simple replacement if you can source the part. If the error message appears, use bluescreenview to examine the DMP file. This issue is more serious but might be easier to fix. Did the modification occur prior to taking apart the unit? If yes, a failing digitizer is likely—often requiring a complete screen swap—but it could also be just dirt or residue. Applying electrical contact cleaner to the connector (probably the lower right 45° port on the main board) and the ribbon cable with that solution might help. Also, if the device is recent, consider filing a return merchandise authorization (RMA) but avoid referencing the crash.
Screen freezes back to what it was showing earlier, no blue screen appears. In the final image, I was watching a TV show and it became stuck on the girl's face. The artifacts appear only during crashes. Sometimes the full screen effect happens, other times just the top part, and sometimes nothing at all. Before the drop it wasn’t an issue. When I dropped it, it remained on, but I was extremely anxious and turned it off right away without checking.
I fully took apart and put the laptop back together. When I turned it on, the screen was completely blank. I thought about a battery issue because it dropped from 55% to 23% too fast while I was checking it (the battery was removed). As a final option, I plugged it back in and it worked for a short time. The trackpad isn’t responding, which is odd, but I’m hesitant to take it out again just in case.
I purchased it from an unofficial seller, which means handling an RMA could be complicated even though I still have some warranty from the store. Regarding the main problem, after getting the laptop, the sound would occasionally freeze for a brief moment, which I thought might be due to an odd operating system issue. I also experienced random blue screens. Currently, the laptop has been playing a video for about half an hour, but I plan to take it to the shop tomorrow. Appreciate the guidance.
