The laptop restarts once you close the lid.
Hello, I own an Acer laptop running Windows 11 Home. It has a basic Ryzen 5 7520U with 8 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD. The problem is that after closing the lid, it always restarts, erasing all my work unless I save. It’s really frustrating having to boot up again every time I need to move. I’ve checked all the drivers and the UEFI settings are up to date, so I’m not sure what else to try. Could you help? Thank you!
It seems like a driver problem is likely the cause—even after updating everything, some manufacturers may have faulty drivers that prevent proper sleep and lead to crashes or reboots. You could try turning off sleep mode and enabling hibernation instead. This will shut down your PC completely while saving your session to the SSD. When you open it again, everything should load automatically. To investigate further, check the Event Viewer for any critical errors and see if a driver is to blame. In some cases, a RAM dump might reveal the issue.
Navigate to the Start menu and look for "Change what closing the lid does." This will take you to the Control Panel where you can adjust the behavior when you close the lid. It appears it's configured to shut down, so switch it to sleep. If it's already set to sleep, there might be another problem affecting application behavior during sleep.
The process involves closing and then reopening the lid, but it doesn’t necessarily wait for you to fully close it before starting. Windows typically handles shutdowns smoothly, though issues like a pinched hinge can trigger an abrupt stop.
