LM poses significant risks because spills can ruin solder connections. As a metal component, it also conducts electricity, increasing the chance of short circuits. If your heat sink is copper without nickel plating, LM could gradually blend into the copper over time. If the laptop lacks pre-applied LM, it might not be worth the investment. I improved my setup by applying Arctic MX-4 to the GPU paste, which performed well despite being dry initially. PTM 7950 is also a solid option for laptops—it matches top thermal pastes and maintains effectiveness through repeated heating and cooling. You can verify if your model uses LM by reviewing disassembly videos of your specific laptop; you’ll be able to tell right away. On my machine, an oxidized area on the pre-applied LM caused some cores to hit their thermal limits under load. Reapplying it fully resolved the issue, and the system has operated smoothly for over two years.
