The laptop display becomes black after being disconnected from the power source.
Hi,
My Asus A555LF laptop is more than five years old. Over the past years, whenever it switches to battery mode or when I disconnect the charger, the screen becomes blank. The power backup is weak because the battery is near the end of its life, but even then, when I unplug, the laptop still runs and the screen is faintly lit—especially at night. I've tried booting other operating systems like different Windows versions and Ubuntu, but the problem persists. Could you help me figure out the cause? Is it a problem with the motherboard, the monitor, or the battery? Thanks for your assistance.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer! I'd begin by checking the BIOS version of the laptop. Compare it with Asus's support site for any BIOS updates, then verify if your operating system (assuming you're using Windows 10) requires an update. Regarding Windows 10, what version are you currently running? Considering your five-year usage, it's likely the laptop battery has reached the end of its life and needs replacement.
Thank you for your kind words and prompt response! I'm using OS version 20H2 and noticed a BIOS update from 2016. I'm unsure how to install it. Regarding the battery, I contacted the Asus service center, who requested a few days for inspection. They said this could take 3-4 days, which I can't afford as I rely on this laptop for work and studies daily. They also suggested that a battery replacement might resolve the problem.
