I'm really struggling to connect my mouse and keyboard. My keyboard is a Razer USB 3.0 v2 model, but I'm not sure where to plug it in. The keyboard is on port 9 and the mouse on port 7. Everything feels off, and I didn't think about assembling it myself. Anyone else have similar issues?

It doesn't matter much if you connect your mouse and keyboard. The main point is whether you have faster devices; then free up the blue (3.0) ports and use ports 7 and 8 instead.

the keyboard displays on installation that it requires a usb 3.0 port for optimal performance. however, after running certain programs, it indicates the keyboard functions as a 2.0 device, while its built-in passthrough port supports usb 3.0. this seems odd since they designed it that way to market it as a usb 3.0 keyboard. lmao. even the support team with razer seems to agree. lol

For 3.0 devices, select any of the blue ports on the motherboard when using the keyboard's pass-through ports. Otherwise, it doesn't affect anything.

Switching to a newer motherboard that doesn’t support older 2.0 devices would really help. After 25 years, it’s frustrating dealing with outdated tech that doesn’t fit modern needs.

This setup is quite typical and straightforward, not unusual at all.

It's impossible to do so. USB 2.0 is included in the standards for USB 3.x.

I'm just really ocd about making sure my keyboard is plugged in first and mouse second. so im not like poking my eye out looking down at the keyboard. but theres no information about port numbers for usb. I took a usb memory stick and plugged it in 1 port at a time in device manager to get it to show me which number is which. lmao. and i literally couldnt find port 1 anywhere. I think its something about extra ports i dont have plugged into the case because the front case ports are 2 and 3 next to the power switch. I have a wifi bluetooth pcie slot adapter plugged into where more usb ports would go. Honestly considering a prebuilt at this point lmao.

I'd opt for the PS2 and a classic mechanical keyboard, mouse, wherever needed. It's simple enough.

It seems you're recalling a past habit of checking keyboard connections before plugging in the mouse, just in case. Nowadays, manufacturers don't emphasize this much and often provide only USB ports without clear labeling. The motherboard has numbered connectors, but the external side of the machine lacks any indication on its back.
