Hi
I’m trying to understand this setup: an ASUS RX6600 Dual running for years, paired with a Ryzen 5 5600 on an MSI B550 A Pro board inside a CoolerMaster Storm Enforcer case. There are two 200mm fans from Coolermaster, one front and one top, plus a 120mm fan at the back, along with the CM550 power supply. All fans spin at 550rpm except the big ones which run at 1000rpm. The ASUS RX6600 sometimes makes minor fan rush noise during idle or desktop mode. After an upgrade to an Intel Arc B580 Limited Edition, the fan rush disappeared completely. When driver problems caused another return, the fan rush also vanished. Now I’m back with an ASUS RX 9060XT Dual, again without any fan noise.
I’m curious about what’s happening inside the system when it’s running at the same load and temperature, especially during idle desktop mode—what causes certain fans to become louder without any load or temperature changes?
I might try monitoring the HWINFO values or checking the fan speeds per blade to figure this out. Thanks!
The CoolerMaster CM550 powersupply is you're certain about? It's worth checking how recent the PSU has become. Recently upgraded to an Intel Arc B580 Limited Edition, it lacks a fan and no longer experiences fan rush idle. This might not be the same card since ASUS also removed the fan.
Because of driver problems and other issues, I returned the Intel unit and upgraded to an ASUS RX 9060XT Dual with zero fan. Did you run DDU before switching GPUs?
When sharing a troubleshooting thread, it's standard to provide full system details. Please list your build specs clearly, including: CPU, cooler, motherboard, RAM, SSD/HDD, GPU, PSU, chassis, OS, monitor. Also mention the age of the PSU and its BIOS version at this time.
