I acquired a damaged EVGA FTW3 1080 ti some time ago. The seller mentioned a friend attempted mining but failed, and I thought it might be a basic BIOS problem, so I took it. The fans begin spinning and one stays running. Eventually, the card lights up but nothing displays on screen. The backlight activates yet no video comes out. This issue has occurred across several test systems using Ryzen and Intel processors. I've tried both dual BIOS settings and used a flashing tool with a clip, as well as NVFlash. It behaves identically previously. When launched via Windows through a GTX 650ti, the device manager reports problems with the card. Any advice or suggestions for next steps?

It seems you experienced a scam and there may be issues with your GPU's hardware, such as dead VRAM modules or a faulty processor.

Usually on eBay, when an item is marked uncertain, the seller already knows it’s faulty and is looking to sell it quickly to someone who thinks they can repair it. It looks like the seller tried everything possible to fix it, but changes like flashing BIOS or using dual BIOS didn’t help, and the system seems to be non-functional.

The item described a damaged card, not an untested one

Great news! You avoided any scams and received exactly what you were promised. It could still be offered to someone equipped with the right tools—like a full BGA soldering station—and the necessary parts to restore it.

My approach seems solid. It’s priced at $100, so I expect a modest profit or minimal loss, and I’m hoping someone with better resources will be interested in taking it.
