I connected my phone to the PC through USB to access its Wi-Fi, but the internet vanished. I’m unsure if this points to a faulty NIC card or something else. I’ll update you as soon as the technician replaces the router. Please help me understand.

That seems like a confusing issue, but it might be worth looking into your router configuration. I’m not sure what you use, but there could be a setting for your PC to operate in a special mode—though I have no idea why that would be necessary.

Consider testing other RJ45 connections. There might be a unique port that causes unexpected shutdowns.

I've never adjusted those options except for updating the Wi-Fi password, yet when the issue began I restored the router to its original settings and it didn't improve.

Uncertain if it's feasible, but I've checked all other four ports.

My first thought is that there's something going on during the DHCP process. Are you even getting an IP address on your computer when everything goes down? I've run into this before where something was going on with a POS terminal that caused it to flood the router with requests. And once the router gets flooded, everything goes down. Not even the ISP would be able to remotely communicate with it.

I’m confused about how networks work. I plan to check my IP settings later to confirm connectivity. Right now, with everyone working from home, I’m not sure if the corporate VPN is the issue since it’s been over a month without office use and the problem appeared only recently. DHCP is active.

You're likely concerned about malware causing a denial-of-service attack that overwhelms your router, making everything unresponsive. Check the LEDs on your network card to see if they flash rapidly when the system shuts down. Look for any activity indicators on your router, especially if it's powered on while connected to your PC. Creating a Linux Live USB can help rule out hardware issues.

It's even more bizarre because I can't picture it working on another operating system. I was certain it was a software problem.
