The internet connection is lagging.
I recently replaced my Dell Inspiron 5765 with a 480 GB SSD instead of a 1 TB hard drive. I used macrium reflect to clone the garage drive. After connecting everything, I observed that Wi-Fi performance dropped compared to before. With an HDD I achieved speeds of 150 Mbps on a 5 GHz connection and about 80 Mbps on a 2.4 GHz one. Now using the SSD I’m getting roughly 90 Mbps on 5 GHz and around 80 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. I’ve updated the drivers and reinstalled them, but the issue persists. The software was also updated to the same version, yet the SSD remains slower. It seems like a software problem.
This might be incorrect because it doesn't account for all variables. The actual cost depends on several factors, and you may not be charged the full amount.
I am paying for a 250mbps connection and I have changed the router settings, yet the download speed remains below expectations. No improvement has occurred.
It's interesting how much depends on the actual equipment in use. I'm curious about the specific modem, router, or wireless AP you're using. What frequency band is your 5GHz network operating on—20, 40, or 80 MHz? Also, what kind of device are you testing? Knowing the antenna type and WiFi card will help us calculate realistic speeds. Let's gather these details to figure it out together!
I have an Arris DG2470 router with 5GHz set to auto across 20, 40, and 80 MHz. My internet card is a Qualcomm Atheros QCA61X4 connected via PCIe. On my phone in the same area, 5GHz delivers about 150 Mbps. The only change I noticed is the hard drive, which suggests a software problem. All drivers and Windows updates are identical.
I wonder if Windows isn't pleased about not being reinstalled on the SSD. I don't remember what Tech Youtuber said, but one suggested cloning a HDD to an SSD might not be the best idea and could lead to problems. Personally, I'd just reinstall Windows with all updates and drivers installed right after. It's frustrating, yes, but if something goes wrong, that's the only solution. You could also test older drivers to check if that's the problem, though with Microsoft's recent update history, it seems they made a mistake somewhere.
I restored Windows by using the recovery option and it functioned properly.
