I just assembled my PC and my Ryzen is sitting idle at 40°C (it reached 75°C during a game). I’m not sure if that’s typical. A quick search suggested a normal idle temperature should be between 32–35°C, so I’m a bit concerned.
It's typical, the temperature readings are stable and within acceptable ranges. What cooling solution were you employing?
You recently played BFV and experienced temperatures reaching 80°C, which is quite intense. You're getting accustomed to such high heat levels.
The 5800X runs hot but 80°C is manageable. Curious to know your setup and fan settings.
Corsair 4000D Airflow Inlet: 1 140mm, 1 120mm front. Exhaust: somewhat tricky, but I’ve added a Noctua NH-D15 heatsink, so the fans expel air from the top of the case—typically where a radiator would be in an AIO setup. That counts as 1 140mm and 1 120mm exhaust respectively (included with the case).
Consider turning the cooler around 90 degrees to let air escape from the back. When it's positioned downward toward your GPU, it will draw in hot air from the GPU and help chill the CPU.
