I attempted to push my CPU with CPU-Z, but the peak speed I see is between 3.68 and 3.70 GHz—not the full 4.60 GHz. Could it be related to my motherboard? Even though it has Turbo Boost 2, the CPU shouldn’t be limited there. Can I still try to boost one core to around 4.60 GHz on the same board? My specs show an i5-9600K with turbo up to 4.60 GHz, RAM, a GTX 1050 Ti, and a decent cooler setup.

4.6Ghz represents the top single-core performance. Boosting to that frequency requires only one core being active, which can be achieved using the single-thread test in CPU-Z. If background tasks utilize multiple cores, you won’t reach 4.6Ghz. There seems to be some confusion in the terminology. Turbo boost isn’t considered overclocking; it’s part of Intel’s design. Additionally, your H310 motherboard doesn’t support overclocking. Noticing the VRM layout suggests it may be limiting power delivery, possibly restricting the CPU from hitting its rated speeds.

You're seeing 4.60 GHz on just one core, but it's missing from Task Manager. To check a single core, open Task Manager and look for "Performance" or "Processor," then select the specific core you want to monitor.

CPU speed can jump above 4.3GHz only in very specific cases where it’s working with just one core for a heavy workload. Special tests such as CPU-Z single core evaluations are needed to reach this level. For regular gaming or demanding real-world tasks, you’ll typically see boosts between 4.3 and 4.4GHz, which match the maximum multi-core speeds. Boosting won’t occur when the system is idle, since Turbo Boost activates only during intensive activity. You should notice speeds exceeding 3.7GHz while the computer runs. If not, verify that Turbo Boost is turned on in the BIOS settings. Also, ensure there aren’t any power restrictions limiting performance, especially if advanced features like AVX are used.

Additionally, these high-speed settings are only possible when the CPU stays cool. (Monitor temperatures—if below 90°C, performance should increase within safe limits.)

For the H310 board, enable core C states in BIOS to ensure turbo boost functions properly. Many users overlook that the single thread test in CPU-Z actually loads two threads instead of one. CPU-Z will load both cores during this test. The Cinebench R23 single thread test only loads a single thread.

I previously used an Intel 8th gen g5400 CPU, then changed it to an i5 9600K. Task Manager showed speeds around 3.68 until recently. After adjusting the BIOS and enabling CPU settings, I noticed speeds jumping to 1.6–2.6 GHz. Once I reset everything back to defaults in BIOS, performance rose to 4.3–4.5 GHz. In the specs, all six cores were listed at 4.2–4.5 GHz, but under the CPU section it showed a multiplier of x3.70, which changed to x4.20–x4.50. The idle temperature was 35°C. It’s surprising how much the speed increased after those changes!
