it functioned until my hdd failed, forcing a replacement. here are some steps i attempted: disabling hyperthreading, restarting, rechecking hyperthreading, resetting bios to defaults, updating bios a11 to a22, but none resolved the issue with my i3-3240 and optiplex 3010.

Ensure the processor count isn't selected in msconfig. Click OK then restart the system.
