Once a while ago, I started my customized Dell Vostro 470 with Windows 10. But it didn’t boot properly and kept showing “Insert proper boot drive.” I ran the Dell Pre-Boot System Diagnostic and everything looked good. Still, I could access it as Drive E running Windows 7 Enterprise, keeping all my files intact. Maybe check the boot order or try a different partition?

I changed the operating system from Windows 8.1 to a free version during the initial year. No confirmation was provided. If there was one, it’s gone now.

You might consider generating a screenshot of the drive. Also, review the BIOS to see if the boot drive appears in the queue.
