The graphics card appears missing from the BIOS setup.
I've built a new PC for a friend, got it to post after some time but the graphics card doesn't show up in BIOS. Also the BOOT light on the Motherboard is yellow, I don't know if that is related or a separate issue. Specs: CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X MB: ASUS TUF Gaming B650 Plus GPU: ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Advanced Edition 16Gb PSU: Be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 1000W RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 2x16GB 6400MHz OS: no OS installed yet What i have observed so far and what i have tried to fix it: During booting initially the GPU fans start spinning but as soon as it posts it stops and the GPU isn't listed anywhere. Also the little control LED next to the Graphics cards power connector isn't glowing (I don't know if it should, it's my first time building a PC from ground up, it just seems weird). It is still warming up though so it is receiving power i think. I've tried taking it out and putting it in again to make sure it's properly in there. That didn't make a difference. Then i tried exchanging the little button batterie on the MB because some threads online suggested that might cause issues if its out of charge. I've updated the BIOS to the latest version but that didn't help eighter. What steps could i take from here? One idea I had was whether i should remove the GPU for now, install windows and download the newest driver for the 4060 Ti, put it back in again to see if that fixes it. I also have an older graphics card (1660 Ti) which I could plug in to see if that shows up but im not sure how that would help me. or are there maybe some other way smaller rookie mistakes i might have made that could cause this?
You're asking about the setup details. The GPU uses an 8-pin power connector, and you've connected it to the PSU using a PCIe power cable. It seems unclear what specific point you're seeking.
I plan to test both approaches tomorrow to confirm it’s not a recurring issue. Are there any software suggestions that could help identify potential problems? This will help me address everything thoroughly when I start working again.
No software problems should occur when there is no operating system.
I think the GPU might not be fully activating due to loose cables. In BIOS, it should display the correct PCI device and model if it works properly. If not, try connecting it in a different PCI slot to check if it appears. This suggests either a faulty PCI slot or insufficient power delivery. It’s also possible the GPU is malfunctioning. If you haven’t installed an OS yet, the problem isn’t software-related. Your approach of checking NVIDIA’s website for manual installation is a good idea. I’m not certain about installing drivers without the GPU, but it might be worth trying. Results would depend on the setup.
I updated the setup and tried different components. First a new PCIe slot didn’t help. Then I swapped cables and used another slot on the PSU, but it still didn’t work. After that, I tested with my older graphics card in both slots, which also failed. Eventually, the other card had clearer control LEDs indicating it was active and receiving power. I went ahead with my original plan. I reinstalled the 4060 Ti, downloaded the drivers, and it finally worked! The BIOS still doesn’t recognize it, which is confusing, but it functions now. I ran a benchmark test to confirm it wasn’t fake, and the results matched what you’d expect for this system. My conclusion: it probably worked all along—maybe the BIOS just isn’t reliable or I’m not using it correctly. If that’s the case, I’ll leave it alone so it doesn’t cause issues again.
