Thanks, your idea makes sense. Enabling Fan Curve when starting a new game helps fans act more logically before using the GPU and prevents unexpected overloads afterward. Disabling it once you finish is a smart approach.

This behavior is typical for contemporary NVIDIA GPUs, particularly in hotter environments. Graphics cards such as your ASUS DUAL RTX 4070 often keep the fans off or run at minimal speed when idle or under light load, resulting in a brief temperature rise to about 80°C upon starting a game. After reaching a stable threshold (generally between 60-80°C), the fans increase again, bringing temperatures back to a consistent range of 65-75°C while playing. If your system maintains these temperatures below 80°C during gameplay without experiencing crashes or performance drops, everything is normal. For added peace of mind, you can fine-tune the fan curve via Afterburner or comparable tools to delay fan activation slightly.

It is anticipated that fans will continue spinning when applying a software custom fan curve in MSI Afterburner because it turns off the 0 RPM setting (the software manages the BIOS fan control). However, you can adjust it to spin very slowly at low temperatures so you won't hear them.
If you wish the 0 RPM mode remains active, ensure the "use firmware control mode" option is checked and apply a curve accordingly (limit to no more than three nodes on the firmware curve to avoid errors). Removing a node involves clicking it and pressing the delete key on your keyboard. The firmware control directly applies the curve to the card's BIOS and usually preserves the silent mode.

I've been using thermal pads on the motherboard and replacing the thermal paste on the processor, which usually fixes most overheating concerns. Some newer drivers can strain the GPU, so we sometimes need to add more pads in areas that weren't necessary before. I noticed a difference when switching between CSM and UEFI modes. If you have a secondary PC with CSM, try using it with Uefi and switch cards to see how it responds. You can also test with afterburner to check if voltage changes are needed. External airflow matters—avoid carpeting and keep the PC on a flat surface in a well-ventilated area. In cooler climates, summers still affect performance, but it shouldn't be a major issue.
