Hello everyone, I recently got an Asus TUF 4090 and have been using it for many games. Minecraft 1.20.4 with BSL shaders is running smoothly, but I've noticed some performance drops when playing the game. Could you help me understand what's happening? I'm currently using Optifine, BSL shader presets, high settings, and a render distance of 16 meters. Despite this, I'm only achieving around 22 frames per second. The GPU is drawing about 15% power (temperature 45-55°C, 3500 Mb memory used, 2500 MHz clock), and the power draw is low at 70-100 watts with minimal CPU usage. However, my CPU usage spikes to 80-100% during gameplay, especially on the 7800x3D, which seems to outperform even the 7900x3D for gaming. The system temperature stays around 70°C with only 15% CPU load. I've also seen some analytics showing spikes when I switch to Minecraft with BSL shaders. It might be related to the CPU performance under load rather than GPU issues. Thanks for any insights!
The typical display settings for Minecraft are standard, but you need the exact resolution to proceed.
Understood, I see. My setup is 4K resolution. That’s actually typical! I watched a YouTube tutorial too, and they used similar high settings—like 200+ FPS with 4K and shaders. The 5800x3D with Tuf 4090 looks great. It seems unrealistic that I’m only getting 22 FPS at 16 render distance. That doesn’t add up.
RTX 4090 consumes a surprising amount of energy even when idle. Running Minecraft generally uses over 10% of its power without the texture pack, which seems typical. Reducing render distance or chunks could boost performance or bring it back to standard settings.
I experimented with different builds over the years, beginning minecraft about 14 years ago. It helps to understand how powerful it can be on devices like the Steam Deck—Java Minecraft runs at around 12W on the CPU and under 1W on the GPU. This doesn’t necessarily mean perfect multithreading; seeing it run on just a few threads is normal. Your CPU seems to handle it efficiently by boosting up to its maximum of 5.05GHz rather than getting stuck in a slow state. It really shows how well an app is optimized for performance.
It's fascinating to see this. It's puzzling why nothing has been updated either. As for the update, I've been using IrisShaders instead of Optifine lately, and I'm seeing around 150fps at a distance of 16 render. Probably a mix of both tools. Thanks for the support!
Fabric together with Sodium offers top performance. My ROG Ally maintains about 70 FPS at 1080p using BSL with the highest shader settings (though it uses six render chunks) and reaches roughly 700 FPS when the shaderpack is disabled and FPS is unlimited. Sodium excels in optimizing Minecraft significantly.
