The Gigabyte AORUS BIOS update concerning the unstable X3D CPUs and altered SOC voltage rendered my PC non-functional.
The problem began after installing the BIOS update F6a on my computer. It has made my PC nearly impossible to use, with frequent crashes in both BIOS and Windows shortly after power-on. After applying the F6a update—which restricts the SOC voltage of the AMD 7800X3D to 1.3V—I started encountering these issues again. Previously, I used the F5a BIOS version, which was the latest at the time I built my PC on April 25th. That version worked perfectly without any problems. Since the update, I tried reverting to F5a but it’s no longer available on the manufacturer’s site. I’ve tried other BIOS versions (F4, F5, F6a) without success. The F4 version appeared most stable (it doesn’t limit SOC voltage), though it still crashes during game launches or after extended use. A consistent thing across all versions is that toggling EXPO has no effect on the crashes. When they occur, my monitor goes black and shows a message saying there’s no video signal, followed by loud fans increasing. At that point, I can only press the power button to shut it down and then restart. Audio through my headset works fine, but I can still hear game sounds, yet the game doesn’t respond to keyboard or mouse inputs, indicating input issues. This typically happens around 15 minutes after booting. No overheating has been reported via HWINFO or MSI Afterburner. Recently, I added two case fans and connected them via a PWM splitter before updating BIOS, but I suspect this might not have mattered since the problems started after the update. The motherboard is a Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX B650, with an AMD 7800X3D CPU, 32GB Kingston Fury Beast RAM at 6000MT/s, CL36. For troubleshooting, I’d appreciate any advice from others who used the same model and BIOS version. I’m unable to use my PC right now and would value guidance on possible fixes.
Do you have EXPO running? [Disclaimer: I'm on an ASUS board and that's where much of my understanding comes from, but what I have read indicates it is fairly applicable across the board.] Afaik there isn't a working SOC voltage regulating+ thermal protecting+EXPO BIOS build yet for any brand/board. AGESA 1.0.0.7 seems to be this un-finished middle ground. I stopped at my board's most recent 1.0.0.6 that gave the SOC limit and I'm able to use EXPO. I'm not entirely sure what the final fix version will be called, but it's supposedly got an internal AMD naming of 1.0.0.9...whether that translates to the manufacturer's next AGESA release is questionable. I know Asus has put out another called 1.0.0.7a, but I've read the same EXPO issues/instability are still present. So It's my understanding that you'll have to either disable EXPO or rollback to the final form of 1.0.0.6..until they get things worked out in the next version. [the thermal protections will certainly be nice, but it seems like that was the 'secondary' mode of failure after the high SOC voltage created some initial damage in the chip...the SOC voltage fix should have everyone covered.]
No, I don't have a dump file or event viewer events available.
It seems you're unsure about something. Could you clarify what you mean?
Press the windows button, enter Event Viewer, launch it. Focus on Windows Logs -> System to view logged errors. Disregard other details; highlight just the errors. Include a screenshot or error codes if needed.
