It’s popular because it’s a hot trend that caught on quickly, and it’s the only realistic Battle Royale game available right now.

I remember those old days of Quake and Unreal Tournament deathmatch. Back then, everyone was just looking for fun, it was straightforward. PUBG feels a bit like those classic games—you get weapon upgrades and then you go after your rivals until only one remains. It’s essentially a massive Unreal Tournament on a larger map. People mainly enjoy shooting and trolling for laughs, and that’s what online gaming should be about. Even the players who take it seriously find it still entertaining.

I’ve spent more than 2k hours with CSGO and over 1k on CS 1.6. That’s similar to what you felt when starting out with PUGBG—you really need to master the mechanics there. There are just too many variables, and it takes a lot of time to become proficient at shooting. I don’t know your settings, but with a 1070 you should easily reach over 100 FPS on medium or low configurations. I own an RX 580 with 8GB RAM and consistently hit over 90 FPS with custom tweaks. If you’re after a visually appealing experience, this isn’t the right game for you—it’s more about gameplay and intense fights than graphics. You can still enjoy it on a flat map with just a few buildings. Playing on lower settings is key; even at 20-30 FPS over your opponent, it won’t hurt. I play CSGO at the lowest possible, even when maxed out. PUGBG can be frustrating sometimes, especially during long loot runs or when you’re chasing kills, but when you land a few wins it’s worth it. Ultimately, it’s up to you. Cheers!

Thank you all for your responses. Although I haven’t personally supported it after testing, I notice a clear interest in something similar. There are many helpful videos and discussions here, which is great!
