The games seem slow even when the frame rate is high.
The games seem slow even when the frame rate is high.
So here’s the situation:
My games used to run perfectly even at 60fps until a few months ago, when every game I played dropped below 144fps and started to feel sluggish. I checked all the common fixes the internet suggested, but nothing worked.
At that time, my setup was:
- Acer 144hz monitor (no free sync or gsync)
- GTX 1060 6gb
- i5 8600k
- 8x2 3200mhz DDR4 RAM
- Corsair HX750 power supply
- Razer Viper wired with 1000hz polling rate
I became really frustrated until I upgraded my monitor and GPU. Now my specs are:
- Gigabyte g24f 165hz monitor (compatible with Gsync)
- RTX 3070 8gb
Everything else remains the same.
I expected this change to solve the problem, but there was no noticeable improvement. Any game that drops below 120-144fps still feels like it’s running under 60fps, whether I’m playing solo or multiplayer. There’s no stuttering or lag when using the PC for other tasks. The GPU temperature rarely exceeds 75°C even at full load, and the CPU stays under 60°C.
I’ve also looked at a benchmark video on YouTube showing FPS with afterburner, and there’s a mention of 99% fps in Nvidia GeForce Overlay, which is roughly half my average.
I tried several things:
- A clean Windows reinstall
- Toggling vsync on or off (never used vsync)
- Disabling fullscreen optimizations
- Using both HDMI and DP cables
- Applying RTSS to limit FPS
It’s been really frustrating, and I’m running out of options. I’m reaching out for any advice that might help clarify the issue. Thanks for your time.
Because I didn't fix the problem with an upgrade, I'll run memtest to check for bad memory dimming or slot issues. Stuttering gameplay usually means memory lag is the cause.
Do you know if any specific games are free of this problem?
