I own a rather outdated PC, and I can't upgrade it soon. When playing most PC titles in Steam, I have to lower the resolution to even play. Previously, it worked for every game, but now when I open Skyrim, my graphics settings reset. I attempted to revert to 800x600, but the only display was my monitor's native resolution (1680x1050). I checked the game's configuration files and changed the resolution there, yet the game still stuck on local settings, even after marking it as read-only. This issue also appeared with R.U.S.E and War Thunder recently. Any suggestions?

The same issue occurs in 4:3 format, but without any resolution displays. It would have helped to include screenshots as well, sorry for the vagueness. Thanks! I'll give it another shot.
