Yesterday I installed GTA V using the Rockstar launcher and ran it with MSI Afterburner to track my FPS. I’ve recently upgraded my PC, so here are my details: GTX 1080 Stryx 8 GB VRAM, Ryzen 5 4500 32 GB RAM. The issue is that during gameplay, RAM usage keeps increasing. When I started the first mission, it was using about 11 GB of memory, but I expected around 8 GB given the high resolution of 1920x1080. (Apologies for the unclear writing)

I don’t understand the issue. The minimum requirements aren’t necessarily what the game will actually use. Are you checking app-specific usage or overall memory consumption? It seems like you might be tracking global RAM usage as well.

The game requires at least 11GB of memory, or your system displays a total usage of 11GB. You have 32GB available, so you likely don’t need that much RAM for other tasks—this could be the game simply using more memory because it’s always accessible and doesn’t need to be as restrictive. Beyond that... last time I played GTA V (I haven’t played in a while since I have strong opinions about how GTA Online evolved), it felt like a heavy mess of updates and patches.

I was tracking app usage through each platform.

The game demands 12 GB of RAM even at high settings because it runs on powerful hardware, not just because of its own specifications. Many top-tier PCs have 32 GB, and GTA V uses only 7-8 GB, showing that performance depends more on system capabilities than the game alone.

Does it become harmful for your background application? It seems GTA 5 can be problematic with the newest updates unless you're playing GTA Online. If you're serious about using it, consider downgrading to the widely supported 1.27 version. Also, take it easy—this might not be ideal.
