Hey everyone, I recently started playing RE4 and it appears in windowed mode before automatically adjusting its size. When I first opened it, a notification popped up asking me to download WMVideo Codec. My research indicates this problem mainly affects Windows N, but I'm located in North America with Windows Media Player already installed. I've double-checked the game files via Steam and updated my GPU drivers, Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, and Windows is current. I've also tried launching it in windowed mode. My system specs are a Ryzen 5800X3D with Radeon 7900XTX, 32GB RAM at 3600MHz with XMP enabled. I'm using Windows 10 Home, version 22H2, with the Windows Experience Feature Pack installed. This issue seems to occur with several Capcom games I've downloaded recently, including Resident Evil VII and the RE4 Chainsaw Demo, where the titles don't even reach the screen.

What storage solution are you employing? I'm wondering since we're advancing quickly into newer video games, it seems HDDs are lagging behind SDDs in speed compared to them. The gap has narrowed enough that HDD performance is now considered the standard. In PC gaming, the recent Dead Space 1 remake has introduced critical issues for users relying on HDDs, especially when those drives are essential for story progression. Just avoid spawning if you're using an HDD... Which makes me feel uneasy about other gamers.

I'm not sure this will work for you, but when I switched to full screen on Windows, I used alt-enter to exit the mode. This helped things show up again. Then go into the menu, lower the refresh rate to 60Hz, and test fullscreen again. Adjust your settings based on what your monitor or cables allow. Good luck!

It seems the issue persists. The interface remains blank with no interactive elements.

Then it focuses on likely a faulty GPU driver. Use Safe mode, disable DDU, and revert to an older driver version.

Yes, I did that following the receipt of the second email with troubleshooting advice from Capcom.
