So a few months ago, I bought a new PC. It has been working great until today. When I started playing games as usual, I tried both Conan Exiles and Total War: Warhammer 3 at the same time. I only have done that once before, and both are very heavy games, but when I closed one game after a while and just played Warhammer 3 alone, it ran fine. After a few more hours with Warhammer, I left for about five hours straight. Now every single game I try to play runs really badly. Even in less demanding games, my FPS drops down to around 55-60 when things were running at 144 before. Conan Exiles is still running, but it's bad at 25 fps and uses a lot of GPU power (99%). The CPU usage is low (only 5% to 30%). Does this sound like a hardware problem? I just updated my drivers to see if that would help, and it didn't. Is there a specific test I can run to tell the difference between hardware failure or something else? I'm a little worried maybe these two games overheated something and fried it. My computer specs are: a Geforce 3070 Ti with 8 GB of RAM, an Intel i7-12700KF processor that has a closed system liquid cooler, 16 GB of DDR4 3200 MHz memory, a 2 TB SSD, and an 850-watt power supply. Oh wait, I noticed something when trying to load Warhammer 3: the game now has some kind of black flickering on it. The screen itself isn't flickering on or off, but parts of it have this cloudy transparent black flickering. Also inside the game, some graphical stuff happened that I've never seen before, like floating ice particles flickering when I move my camera around.
Check out how well you play by running a game with two others at the same time. If it feels hot, maybe your SSD got too warm. Turn off automatic downloads and uninstall old drivers using DDU from my notes. Then install the latest graphics card drivers. In Nvidia Control Panel, go to 3D settings and turn off VSync just to test if things are better in the game. Check how well you play now!
i apologize if this seems silly, but how does one actually get this done? Do i have to download extra software, or is it already part of the Windows operating system? Also, on Windows 11, someone mentioned using CrystalDiskInfo and showed me what those reports say.
Sorry I should have offered a way to check your ssd. That is fine as long as the health and speed are fine you can move on from the ssd as your problem. I would go to removing the gpu drivers as stated earlier. You can also try running sfc /scannow in windows powershell (admin) to check your windows files.
i took out my drivers using DDU, then put them back on with the ones i got from nvidia when i was not at my computer. i took out the cmos battery left it there for two minutes and put it back in but that didn't work either. now windows is set up again and a game wants to reinstall itself so I can test if everything works. i have boons internet so it takes a while lol. thanks for helping me with this.
