I own the retail copy of GTA V, not the Steam edition. After updating to Windows 10 it functioned properly until something triggered a reinstall prompt. I followed through with the reinstall, played it afterward, and loaded it again—this time it crashed. The next time I opened it, it asked me to reinstall once more. I'm really upset and unsure how to fix this.

Have you considered trying to reinstall it?

Maybe the Windows 10 problem is the cause.

The system indicated a re-install was needed because of an error, or it couldn't locate the directory.

I began experiencing crashes and checked the game cache, which indicated that all files were missing. However, they are located in the correct directory where I installed it.

Consider reinstalling it in a different folder, perhaps on another storage device.

I've placed it on an SSD for roughly a month without any issues so far. I'm unsure exactly where the installation is happening now. I moved all my files from the main folder into a backup directory just in case it fails, since it's already installed.

I'm planning to let it set up overnight. If it fails in the morning, I'll clear my drive of any GTA V files and move it to my regular HDD.
