From a more serious perspective, reinstalling both drivers and the game should resolve your problem completely. It’s unlikely you’ll experience such low FPS with a 970; it’s a solid card. There could be a quicker solution, though this particular method works best.
The game has been updated, but my performance remains poor. I’ll give it another shot as you suggested.
