The game GTA online stops working after a short time.
My RIG includes a Ryzen 3 1300X processor, a Gigabyte B450M DS3H motherboard, 8GB of 2666 MHz RAM, and an RX 480 8GB GPU. After installing GTA 5 from Epic Games and setting the graphics to 1080p high, I joined a public online server. The game crashed after just five minutes. I restarted it multiple times but the issue persisted. I enabled the Radeon overlay to monitor temperatures; CPU and GPU temps stayed normal around 65°C. However, RAM and VRAM usage became unusual—starting at about 2GB VRAM and 3-4GB RAM usage, then rapidly increasing to 7.8-8GB before the game crashed. Sometimes the entire PC would freeze, requiring a forced shutdown and restart. I adjusted the graphics settings to 720p low in case of insufficient RAM, but the problem continued even at maximum RAM utilization. I suspect the Radeon driver might be the cause, so I reinstalled the video driver, double-checked other drivers, and updated them. After that, the crashes still occurred. Is there a solution to this issue? What exactly is behind the problems?
Power source design and specifications? That detail isn't sufficient.
GTA V tends to consume a lot of RAM, often exceeding 8GB, and the online version might perform even worse.
ram usage rises steadily regardless of the graphic setting! tested 720p low, still unchanged!
It's disappointing, but I haven't found any reviews for this PSU... Quality seems questionable. The whole PC can still function as a PSU, but power usage isn't just about efficiency—there might be spikes that aren't detected. Consider limiting the GPU power to 50% and observe the results. Do you receive any error messages during crashes?
Did what you just mentioned. Still no adjustments. I don’t believe it’s due to insufficient RAM. My friend is running GTA 3 at 720p medium with an 8GB drive, and I’m sticking to that setting. The RAM usage in the overlay doesn’t spike to its maximum—it begins around 5.5GB (about 4GB for the main menu). Crash messages are also inconsistent; random errors appear after crashes. It’s strange that GTA 5 uses 8GB of VRAM even at 720p low, isn’t it? I’m considering a clean Windows reinstall to see if it resolves the issue. I’ll remember your comments, and if the fix doesn’t work with Windows, I’ll try with CV650.
If only this title performs poorly in your library—hard to say if a fresh Windows setup will help...—it might be worth checking the source of the issue. That’s why I brought it up, but if the warning appears and disappears quickly, we should look into Reliability Monitor to see what happened during that time. The game engine uses a lot of RAM, which could mean a memory leak is the problem. From what I understand, Rockstar hasn’t really addressed this before. The question remains: what might help you?
