Hey there! I’m just getting started with PC stuff and I’m totally willing to help fix this. When I play Valorant or CS:GO (mostly Valorant now), my frame rate stays around 80-90 FPS, which is perfect for me. But sometimes it drops down to about 30 FPS and then jumps back. This keeps happening throughout the game.
I have an X4-8600 CPU, a GTX 750 with 1 GB of memory, and 6 GB of RAM. I’m considered a low-end gamer. I’ve checked my CPU temperatures using Core Temp, and they never go above 73°C even after hours of play with friends. I’ve seen the max temps stay around 71°C.
I thought maybe overheating was the problem, but it rarely goes past 71°C. I also looked at stats in Steam – when my FPS drops, the CPU usage spikes and sometimes shows up as “CPU (Render) Time” around 11-15 ms. When it recovers, it usually drops to 5-9 ms.
I’ve tried everything: swapped out the CPU, cleaned the RAM, reinstalled Valorant and Vanguard, adjusted power settings, updated Windows and drivers. Still nothing changes much. I’m wondering if there’s another reason behind this. Any tips?
I neglected keeping track of my core clocks before noticing a warning about the x4 860k throttling. They suggested lowering the CPU voltage gradually until it hits 1.25v. I followed that advice and it worked. Likely the issue is resolved now. I plan to upgrade my cooling system so I won’t rely on AMD overdrive anymore. Thanks!
