The FPS decreases in every game?
I have just got my new GPU, but it isn’t working well. My FPS stays unstable and drops in every game I play. I wanted this GPU so I could enjoy high or ultra graphics and improve my FPS. However, I’m experiencing significant FPS drops and my CPU and GPU utilization is low.
Here’s my setup:
- Monitor: ASUS TUF 24" FHD 144Hz 1ms GTG IPS LED FreeSync Gaming Monitor (VG249Q)
- GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti FTW3 Ultra Gaming
- CPU: Intel Core i7-10700K
- Power Supply: Corsair RM 750x
My goals:
- Play at high/ultra settings at 144 FPS 1080p on games like Comp, Fortnite, COD, Apex.
- For non-comp games I want GTA, Elden Ring, CyberPunk 2077 at 80–120 FPS.
I tried several fixes without success:
- Used DDU to reinstall or uninstall graphics drivers.
- Updated BIOS.
- Confirmed the monitor is connected to the GPU, not the motherboard.
- Disabled V-sync.
- Reinstalled games.
- Changed Windows power settings to high performance.
- Reset PC.
What might help?
- Should I replace my CPU? Is the i7-10700K enough? Could it be a bottleneck?
- Does my current build not support 1080p at 144 FPS? Would a new monitor be needed?
- Should I upgrade to a different GPU?
- Am I setting expectations too high? Is there anything else I can do to improve performance?
Another point is that the 3070ti generates significantly more heat than expected, and the 10700k's temperature isn't well understood either.
Consider gaming with the case off to check for frame rate stability; if you notice lower frame rates, your case might be too hot—add fans if needed.
If the problem persists, ensure you're using separate PCIe power cables for the card instead of a daisy chain through multiple plugs.

Right away, the recommended PSU for this card is just the bare minimum—750W. Your CPU can pull up to 205 watts at its maximum (as noted on Anandtech.com). I think the PSU might be having trouble handling any spikes or higher demands from the CPU/GPU. It would be wise to upgrade to a more robust PSU for better stability and additional power support.

Yes, I use two separate cables connected to the PSU instead of one with two plugs.
I've already installed DDU and reinstalled Windows.
I will purchase a new PSU and install it, then take another photo of my setup. Once completed, I'll be back. I just need a bit more time for buying and installing.

Are there any background processes, such as mining software?
Refer to CyberPunk 2077 80 - 120 FPS. @ 1080p Ultra + DLSS this clip maintains similar performance in that range.

I purchased a new PSU of the same model, 1000W (https://www.corsair.com/ca/en/Categ...pl...9020094-NA).
Personally, I don’t think there’s a big difference—maybe around 5-10%. For my fans, this is the only option I have and the airflow is fine. Is that okay? Do you have any other suggestions to try?
