Hello All!
I faced a rather troublesome issue yesterday and I’m reaching out for assistance.
.
Situation:
I had a Lenovo T420 laptop running Windows 7, and I planned to switch to Windows 10.
On the machine, there was approximately 32GB of personal data stored in one folder on the desktop.
I transferred this data to a 1TB Samsung Story Station external HDD (model HX-DU010EBA62).
After completing the transfer, I unplugged the USB cable, restarted the laptop, and booted from the USB drive using the Windows 10 installer.
There, I deleted the partitions, recreated the necessary ones, and installed the new operating system.
The laptop also contains a 160GB Intel SSD.
)
Once all updates and settings were finished, I attempted to move the files from the external HDD back to the SSD, but nothing showed up.
What I tried so far:
- Checked the external HDD using Windows 7 – no results
- Ran EaseUs Data Recovery Wizard on the external HDD – no success
- Ran it on the SSD – also unsuccessful
- Tried Stellar Data Recovery on the SSD – no results
I’m confused because if the copy process failed, there should be remnants of the 32GB data on the SSD. I expect some fragments—like a photo, a PDF, or an Excel file—to appear in the scan, but they’re missing. The entire drive appears to have been wiped clean.
If anyone has insights or tips for this situation, please let me know!
Thanks in advance!
SSDs behave differently from traditional hard drives in data recovery situations. Apologies for your disappointment.
