hello guys, I have this really weird problem on my PC. I want it to open .xlsx files in microsoft excel, but for some stupid reason my PC won't let me open those files with excel. I managed to find the setting to change the default program for opening this kind of files, but it will only let me select wordpad, even though I have excel on my pc, or I can search in the app store but I can't find excel that way, probably because I already have it. I am using windows 10 and microsoft excel 2010. edit: the actual problem is in the fact that I can't change my windows setting, not the emailed files. also, microsoft office (the entire package) was given to us by the company that my father works for, could that be causing problems?

They were saved as Excel files from the 1990s through the early 2000s, specifically versions like 97 and 2003.

You can check the files by opening the mail folder and reviewing them. Since you can't adjust the settings, it's unclear whether the issue is related to that.

The PC displays it just as a link, not as a real file, which could be the issue. It seems unclear what type of file it actually is, and adjusting the settings doesn’t seem to resolve the problem.

.xlsx refers to the Office 2007 file type. Deleting hidden files might prevent it from opening properly.

You're asking about files that were removed, possibly from Windows settings. I need more details to understand what might have been deleted and why it's important. Could you clarify which settings you changed and any error messages you encountered?

Microsoft usually creates two files when saving a document. One appears for opening with some details, and another stays hidden, holding other files. If the hidden file disappears, you can't access it. Another issue could be corruption. Did the original file suddenly shut down while editing? Was the storage drive working properly? After some time, chances of fixing it are low.
