my ethernet port mobo seems to have stopped showing up in device manager, though my wifi works perfectly. i’m planning to purchase a network card instead, but i’m not familiar with all the chipset options. i’d like something with 2.5gb storage and an intel processor, since realtek has always failed for me. additionally, i’ll need to buy it locally in the uk.

You can connect directly with a USB to Ethernet adapter and avoid needing an internal card.

Choose a device featuring an Intel chipset whenever possible. I’ve found them more reliable than Realtek options. The rest tend to be quite similar.
