The dual RAM kit suddenly fails right after functioning perfectly for two weeks prior.
Hello. Last night I went to power up the PC I’m selling to a friend to verify everything functions properly. After turning it on, a DRAM LED appeared. I assumed the RAM modules had shifted out of place and reinserted them, but the LED issue persisted. I then reset the CMOS by removing the battery and using the jumper on the motherboard. I also installed a BIOS speaker, which emitted the same error code: "3 beeps - Base 64K memory failure - bad memory." I experimented by testing the RAM sticks individually in each slot, confirming the same error. After removing all DIMMs from the motherboard, I repeated the test. When I disconnected the CPU power cable and restarted the system, the same three beeps appeared. This outcome is puzzling since the motherboard had no DIMMs installed. I’m starting with basic assumptions: either the CPU RAM controller failed (unlikely), or the motherboard itself has malfunctioned. The RAM unit had previously passed tests, so I’m unsure whether to replace the RAM, the CPU, or consider a new motherboard. The specifications are provided in the attached image; the RAM and case are brand new, while other components remain used. Appreciate any advice.
Sure, it seems like you're thinking about RAM or the motherboard. Both the CPU and motherboard can be tricky to get right now, except for used or very expensive options. I'd suggest trying the RAM first, then figure out what comes next.
