Hey there! So a year ago I upgraded my Asus AC3200 to handle more Wi-Fi devices on my parents' network. Even though it was a big improvement, I still felt it wasn’t perfect. When the quarantine began, the network got really crowded, which made me super frustrated. I ended up running lots of Ethernet cables to try and ease the load, but it was still a strain. I’m also eager to explore more settings for a personalized setup.

I’m considering setting up a Ubiquiti home network for my family for three main reasons: better Wi-Fi performance, staying updated with new tech, and preparing for when I move out. At first, I was surprised by the cost—around 814 Canadian pesos for a gateway, a Poe switch, and two access points. That didn’t include a cloud key I wanted.

I also learned about the Dream Machine (not the professional version) and think it could be a great base for my Wi-Fi, even if it might be too powerful. I’m curious about your thoughts on the Dream Machine Pro and what you’ve experienced with it.

Your ISP provides either down or up bandwidth. The number of "so many wifi devices" is typically around 5 to 10.

Score 32 down, 10 up. Requires at least 23 devices. Adjustments based on guest presence.

Based on the number of floors and the size of your floorplan, you might need extra entry points to manage traffic. It seems you likely don’t have enough bandwidth for all the devices. I experienced slow performance with 30 devices down and just one up, especially when streaming 4K or 1440p. You’re already running multiple streams, which further strains the connection.

Sadly, my service won’t allow us to boost our speeds without sacrificing discounts and unlimited internet. However, many of the gadgets we use—like Google Home and Chrome Cast—do work well together. I’m hoping a better device will let me manage priority access for these tools.
