It seems like you were expecting a different outcome, but everything fit together just right. Probably because both devices use the same LGA 1151 standard.

6th to 9th generation devices function almost identically. 1151 V1 and V2 work seamlessly together. If Intel had been sloppy, they’d still be compatible through some clever modifications (something most users avoid). The markings line up perfectly. They share the same size, 1151.

Because it matches the physical space, it doesn’t guarantee electrical or circuit compatibility. It aligns properly in orientation. Here’s a comparison of 7th and 8th gen models. Also, the notch allows installation from either side without issues. I’ve seen people damage systems by forcing components backward.
