Over the past few months, my desktop PC has begun experiencing frequent freezing issues specifically when playing games. Occasionally, I can close the game using keyboard shortcuts because it only freezes the game itself and not the operating system, however, most of the time, the entire computer locks up and requires a restart. I recently installed a new power supply unit (PSU) with an additional 100 watts in hopes that insufficient power was the cause, but this did not resolve the problem – neither did replacing the hard drive or performing a fresh operating system installation and complete recovery. This issue has arisen across multiple games, not just those associated with a single title. Furthermore, one game that previously worked fine has now begun exhibiting this freezing behavior unexpectedly.

Graphics Card: GTX 780
Motherboard: Asus Prime B350 Plus
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (6 core)
Memory: 8GB RAM
Power Supply Unit: 800W
Operating System: Windows 10
Two Hard Drives (OS on SSD and a 4.5TB drive for storage)
Four Fans (including CPU fan)

What is the manufacturer and model number of your power supply unit? It’s an ATX, 800 watts – model number is 135AE, and it’s a modular design.

It’s likely you require a robust power supply, and the current one is inadequate. It seems unlikely that the PSU is causing the issue; the computer functioned successfully for a considerable period with a less powerful unit, running the same games. I upgraded to this one solely to assess whether an increase in power was necessary, particularly since the problems began coinciding with the installation of my solid-state drive. Considering the SSD might have demanded more power, I replaced the PSU with the current model in hopes of resolving the situation.
