Hi, I need assistance with a recent issue where my desktop stopped booting.
Description of the problem:
The system would power on briefly, fans would spin for a moment before shutting down. After restarting, the power button stopped responding and the fans ceased operation entirely. Waiting over 30 minutes still reproduced the same behavior.
The machine had been running smoothly for four years without any hardware or software changes before this failure.
Specific details:
- Build: ASUS Z170-A, i5-6600k, OC 4.5GHz
- Components: Kraken x61 closed CPU watercooler, GTX 1070 MSi Armor, Corsair Vengeance LPX, Samsung SSD, WD Blue WD10EZEX
- OS: Windows 10, NZXT Source 340 ATX
What I attempted:
- Switched to a CORSAIR RM Series RM750 power supply
- Tried booting without RAM, GPU, or boot drive (SSD)
- Disconnected the LED lighting
- Removed the battery and left disconnected from power for hours
- Used different power outlets
No changes improved the situation.
Could you help identify the problem and suggest a test to diagnose it?
Thank you ahead of time,
Appreciate your help!

Thank you. I went through it when I built the system 4 years ago, and for good measure also now. Sadly, there's still no post (not surprising, as I did not touch the hardware at all. Something just broke and I don't know what)

Hey, i had a similar issue moving the motherboard and ended up with yours. The problem went away after fixing the motherboard again. Try running the mobo-psu-cpu outside the PC case. If it works, see how you position it.

SeaSonic M12II EVO 620 Bronze has been running well since June '16. However, during the PSU replacement, I noticed it was upside down for five years. Thanks for the suggestion! I didn’t succeed in fixing it, unfortunately. In my opinion, three parts might have failed: the motherboard, CPU, and SSD. I’m too proud to take this desktop to a professional, too uneducated to solve it myself, and too poor to throw away the components. Do you have any other ideas? I’d really appreciate it!

Have you confirmed whether all the modular Seasonic cables have been swapped out for the new Corsair cables? Or is there still an older modular Seasonic cable (PCI-e, molex or SATA) connected to the Corsair power supply?

A bit delayed in my reply, but you were almost correct. The initial PSU was defective and I replaced it. I accidentally used the identical power cable, which caused a completely new PSU to fail and damaged two internal drives plus one external drive (both affected; I left them plugged in, which is a shame). Drives, PSU, and cables have all been swapped, and my old unit is now working properly. Thank you all for your support and assistance.
