The Dell Optiplex 760Monitor switches its state on and off.
Hello everyone, I'm looking for a way to fix an issue with my old PC. I own a Dell Optiplex 760 workstation in a small form factor. It connects to a Hanns-G 19" monitor via a VGA cable. I've been using it for playing classic games such as Forgotten Hope 2, Battlefield 2 mod, WRC 2010, Moto GP 2010, The Godfather 2, and GTA San Andreas. Since it doesn't have a dedicated GPU, I'm relying on the integrated graphics from my Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 CPU, which has 4 x 2 GB DDR2 modules (xms 2 model). The system runs Windows 10, and recently the monitor started flickering and shutting off intermittently. Before this, everything worked fine—only occasional overheating of the PSU area when the room was warm (around 18°C). These problems happened a few times for short periods, maybe 1 or 2 minutes, usually during summer. Now they occur after about 15-20 minutes of gaming, and I can't use the machine then. I understand it's old, but I just want to keep it until I can afford a new build. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...
Is the display shutting down completely or is it fading to black as a signal drops? Would another VGA cable work? Does your case include the complete height PCIe riser, or are only partial slots available? Even a basic, older GPU would be better than the integrated graphics from the Core 2 generation.
The screen turns completely black, featuring a button on the front of its frame. When the monitor is functioning properly, the button appears blue; it shifts to orange when there’s no signal. During the issue I described in my earlier post, the button remains unlit regardless of color changes. I don’t have any spare VGA cables or monitors for testing. It seems unclear about this specific problem, but from what I saw on YouTube, some users installed low-profile GPUs into older workstations. This is my monitor—its main difference is the absence of a built-in speaker. Hanns.G HQ191D https://www.gumtree.com/p/computer-monit...1466815527
I don’t have a different machine for testing, and I also lack someone to provide another device for this task.
